Grand Haven’s Harrison Sorrelle gets 1,000th career point

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. - Harrison Sorrelle knew he needed 15 points to reach 1,000 points for his career. But the Grand Haven senior wasn’t keeping track in his head.

“I hit a fade-away on a bank shot,” he said. “Once I heard the crowd go nuts, I knew it was the one. I was pretty excited.”

Sorrelle, a 6-foot-6 guard, finished with 31 points as Grand Haven beat St. Joseph 65-57 on Tuesday night, the final regular season game of the year.

“Means a lot. It’s a huge milestone that only a few guys get to reach,” he said.

Sorrelle is just the third boys basketball player to reach the mark at Grand Haven.

“My coach (Greg Immink) called a timeout and I got a picture with the student section,” Sorrelle said. “It was pretty cool. I gave my teammates and coaches a hug. They all ran to me on the court and they gave me a ball.”

It was extra special that it came on Senior Night.

“I wanna thank the Grand Haven community,” Sorrelle said. “And all the teammates I’ve had over four years and coach Immink and Coach Ron Peters for all they’ve done for me.”

Sorrelle, who played his travel ball with MBA Lakeshore last year, is averaging 22 points per game. He has yet to decide where he will play next fall.
