GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Carson Vis is getting attention from Division 1 college basketball programs.

The Grand Rapids South Christian sophomore went on unofficial visits to the University of Toledo and the University of Michigan last weekend.

“Toledo had been texting with Coach T.J. throughout the season,” Vis said of South Christian coach Taylor Johnson. “Then on Friday night, the Michigan assistant coach, Saddi Washington, contacted (Grand Rapids Storm coach) Jason Martin and told him to have me go to the game on Sunday.”

Vis, a 6-foot-4 forward, has an offer from Ferris State University. He also went on an unofficial visit to Western Michigan University earlier this season.

Vis got to see a pretty good game on Sunday as Michigan rallied to beat Wisconsin in overtime, 87-79.

“It was pretty cool,” Vis said. “Coach T.J. and my dad went to the game and we sat in the second row right behind the hoop. I got to go in the locker room after the game and say hi to some of the players and coaches.”

Durral Brooks, a junior at Grand Rapids Catholic Central, also was at the game. Brooks has offers from Michigan and Michigan State.  Zeeland West junior Merritt Alderink also was at the game.

So does Vis see himself as a Division 1 basketball player?

“Yeah, I hope I can get there someday,” he said. “I just have to keep working hard.”

Vis plays travel ball for the Grand Rapids Storm. His South Christian team is the No. 3 ranked team in Division 2.

Another area sophomore, Camden Karel, a 6-foot-9 center at Byron Center, also has had a bunch of unofficial college visits. He went on a visit to Purdue last week and has been to Michigan, Michigan State and Western Michigan. He has an offer from Hofstra University.
