Richards becomes all-time leading scorer at Fruitport Calvary Christian
FRUITPORT, Mich. - Bradley Richards became the all-time leading scorer at Fruitport Calvary Christian this week.
Richards, a 6-foot-5 junior, had 18 points and 17 rebounds in a 65-52 win over Hesperia on Friday. He surpasses 2002 graduate Steven Herbert.
"It is not often in team sports we recognize an individual,” said coach Brad Richards, who is Bradley’s father. “But on occasion a milestone needs to be celebrated. Bradley Richards recently, not only surpassed 1,500 career points at the varsity level, but he also passed the school record for points in a career held by Steve Herbert.”
Herbert, who went on to play at Indiana Wesleyan University, scored 1,551 points at Fruitport Calvary Christian. He was on hand to celebrate with Richards.
Richards, who is averaging 29 points per game, played two years on varsity as a middle-school student, which is allowed for MHSAA schools with less than 100 students. When accounting for those two years, which don’t count toward MHSAA records, he has 1,710 career varsity points.
Fruitport Calvary Christian improved to 10-6 after beating Hesperia. Sam Zelenka had 20 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists and Quinn Swanson had 19 points and 4 assists.
