South Christian’s Carson Vis breaks both wrists in playoff game
VICKSBURG, Mich. - South Christian High School sophomore Carson Vis is done for the postseason after he broke both wrists during a game on Wednesday.
During the first quarter of the Division 2 regional championship game against Hamilton, Vis stole the ball and drove the length of the court. He went up for a thunderous dunk but came down hard on the court.
Trainers rushed to his side and he was quickly taken to the hospital.
“His right wrist was splinted and (the swelling in) his left wrist had to be reduced in the ER and then splinted,” said Jodi Vis, Carson’s mother. “He’ll follow up with the ortho next week to determine the next steps.”
South Christian senior Jake DeHaan said the team is thinking about Vis.
“That’s a huge loss,” DeHaan said. “He’s given his heart to this team. To see him go down, hurts a lot. Everyone feels for him and we’ll all be praying for him.”
The Sailors went on to win the game 82-47 to clinch the regional championship. Vis scored nine points in the first quarter before his injury.
“You wanna celebrate, but you’re thinking about Carson at the same time,” DeHaan said.
South Christian advances to the Division 2 state quarterfinals on Tuesday when they play Unity Christian at Calvin University.
The team is anxious to see Vis on the sideline.
“He’s disappointed but ready to cheer on the team,” Jodi Vis said.
Carson Vis is one of the top sophomore basketball players in the state. He has an offer from Ferris State University and has had unofficial visits to the University of Michigan and Toledo. He leads South Christian in scoring at 20.7 points per game. He’s also averaging 5 rebounds and 3.2 assists.
