GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Ottawa Hills High School has a new boys varsity basketball coach.

Dominic Shannon was hired last week. He replaces Derrick King, who stepped down after last season.

Shannon was the head coach at Wyoming Lee High School the past three seasons.

“I’m honored to be selected as the Big O’s boys varsity basketball head coach,” Shannon said.

He led Lee to a combined 40-24 record, including back-to-back Alliance League championships. Lee was 5-16 in his first year and had a stunning turnaround to 19-2 the next season. Lee was 16-6 last year.

“Ottawa Hills is a pivotal piece in the Grand Rapids community, specifically the Southeast side of GR,” Shannon said. “It is a side of town I grew up in, a community I’ve served for the past several years. And I attended Ottawa as a freshman but graduated from East Kentwood in 2004.”

Shannon played basketball at East Kentwood and then for a year at Saginaw Valley State, where he graduated.

Ottawa Hills was 9-5 in the O-K Gold Conference last year and 13-11 overall.
