GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Craig Hureskin was cutting it close.

The Ottawa Hills senior surpassed 1,000 career points on Monday and he needed the postseason to do it.

The 6-foot-1, 182-pound guard scored 27 points in the first game of districts after beating Middleville 57-49.

“I thought I would get it because I was on track after like the 11th game,” Hureskin said. “I just didn’t know when it would come.”

Hureskin, who is averaging 26 points per game, said it wasn’t easy after coming off the bench early in his junior year since the team had a lot of seniors.

“It means a lot,” he said. “I also did it two years and came off the bench so it means a lot to be able to get it.”

Hureskin scored 51 points on Jan. 5 against Wayland, which is the most in a game in West Michigan this season.

Hureskin would like to play in college, but he is still unsigned.
