GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Carson Vis figured he’d reach the 1,000 career point mark at some point in his career.

But the Grand Rapids South Christian guard didn’t think he’d do it his junior season.

“It's feels really cool,” Vis said. “It's definitely a blessing. And I always thought I was gonna be able to get it. Obviously not a ton of people get, it let alone during junior year. So it's just a really cool accomplishment.”

Vis, a 6-foot-4 forward, scored his record bucket in the second quarter of a 75-44 in over Kenowa Hills on Friday.

The South Christian scoring record is 1,853 by David Kool, who is now the school’s athletic director. He would win Mr. Basketball his senior year in 2006.

“It's definitely a dream of mine to be able to pass Coach Kool as the all time leading scorer at South,” Vis said. “And it's something that would be really cool but I always want to win like Coach Kool so that's a bigger dream of mine and our team.

Vis, who is averaging 18.6 points per game, was on an official visit at Western Michigan University on Saturday. He has eight college offers, including WMU. His others offers are from Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, Toledo, Illinois State, Ferris State, Saginaw Valley State and Grand Valley State.

South Christian, which made it to the Division 2 state title game last March, is 10-4 this season.

“It’s pretty awesome,” South Christian coach Taylor Johnson said of Vis reaching 1,000 points. “I’m happy for him. He’s got other goals he wants to accomplish and we hope we can help him get there.”
