KENTWOOD, Mich. - East Kentwood High School star Christian Humphrey-Rembert could miss much of the rest of the regular season with an ankle injury.

The 6-foot-9 junior sat on the bench with a walking boot on his left foot on Saturday during East Kentwood’s game with Orchard Lake St. Mary’s.

He said he suffered a high-ankle sprain during East Kentwood’s game with Caledonia on Friday.

“In the fourth quarter, I went up for a rebound and landed on a kid’s foot,” Humphrey-Rembert said. “I went down in pain and my teammates helped me up. I tried to tough it out and played the rest of the game.”

He said the pain got worse after the game.

“As soon as I got home, it was like a heartbeat in my foot (from the swelling),” he said.

Humphrey-Rembert, who transferred from LaLumiere Prep School in LaPorte, Ind., in December, has college offers from nine Division I programs: Cal Berkeley, Howard, UC Santa Barbara, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Western Michigan, Southern Utah, Saint Louis, Stony Brook and Cal Poly.

Fore East Kentwood, he is averaging 12.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2.3 assists.

“I’ve always believed in next-man-up (mentality),” Humphrey-Rembert said. “My teammates practice hard so they will be ready. Hopefully I’m ready to make a run come districts.”

East Kentwood is 8-3 overall and tied for first in the O-K Red Conference with a 4-1 record as of Monday, Jan. 23. It plays West Ottawa on Tuesday and Hudsonville on Friday.
