Harrison Sorrelle transfers to Lake Superior State
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Harrison Sorrelle is transferring to Lake Superior State University to play basketball.
“I have a lot of trust in the coaches and what they’re doing there,” Sorrelle said. “I like the future they have. I really enjoyed being around the guys on my visit there.”
The Grand Haven High School grad spent the past season at the United States Air Force Academy’s prep school. But reality set in when he realized it was more than just playing basketball at a military academy.
“There was a lot of focus on the military and having it be your profession after college,” he said. “That wasn’t something I wanted to go into.”
The 6-foot-5, 185-pound guard has all four years of eligibility. His senior year at Grand Haven, Sorrelle averaged 21.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.2 steals.
Sorrelle made the 5-hour drive to Sault Ste. Marie in the Upper Peninsula last week and had a lot of time to think about what he wanted to do. When he got up to Lake Superior, he realized it was where he wanted to spend the next four years of college.
“The drive is really smooth,” Sorrelle said. “It’s nice and scenic and the U.P. is really nice. I was up there also for a visit last year, too. The campus is pretty small, which is kinda nice so I don’t have to run across campus to get to classes.”
Sorrelle said he had interest from a lot of schools, including other GLIAC programs.
Lake Superior State - which is coached by Steve Hettinga - finished second in the GLIAC last season with a 13-5 record and were 23-9 overall.
