GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Michael Lindquist is an elite shooter.

The Greenville High School junior drained a game-winning 3-pointer during the Storm Classic last weekend.

Then he had a team-high 16 points in the next game for his Grand Rapids Storm 17U Select travel basketball team. His teammate Braden Latimer had 15.

The duo also are teammates at Greenville, too. They helped the Yellow Jackets to a conference title and a program-best 22-2 record.

So why play together during the travel season, too?

“It’s important,” Latimer said. “You obviously gain chemistry just by playing with each other. So you know how each other plays in the games.”

It’s not the first time Lindquist and Latimer have been teammates during the summer season.

“We’ve been playing a long time together,” Lindquist said. “Since like sixth grade. With Greenville stuff. And freshman year, we were on MBA together.”

Lindquist, a 5-foot-10, 150-pound guard, averaged 16.8 points per game last season. He was named River Cities Alliance Player of the Year.

“It was a really fun season,” he said. “We had a great group of guys who really shared the ball. And we really got after it on defense.”

Latimer is already looking forward to next season.

“We have to do the exact same thing,” he said. “We’ve got some guys coming up that are good players. We’ve got a tougher non-conference schedule next year. But that doesn’t change our goals. We still want another school record.”

Latimer, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound forward, averaged 13 points and was named first-team all-conference.

“He can do it all, really,” Lindquist said of his teammate. “He’s really versatile. He can shoot it and he can bang some bodies down low.”

The 17U Storm Select team went 3-1 at the Storm Classic. The team is coached by Jaleel Williams. Other Grand Rapids area players on the roster: Derek Chapin (Kenowa Hills), Carter Drolema (Rockford), Eega Ntanyl (Forest Hills Eastern), Harrison Snoeyink (Rockford) and Dayday Williams (Fruitport).
