Godwin Heights star reaches 1,000 career points

WYOMING, Mich. - Jakhary Towns has played varsity basketball since he was a freshman.

Now the Wyoming Godwin Heights star is a senior and setting records.

Towns scored his 1,000th career point on Tuesday as Godwin Heights beat NorthPointe Christian 82-74.

“It feels great to play since freshman year and have all these moments,” Towns said. “And finally get the big 1,000 (was big). I knew I would have to work hard I always knew I would be destined to get it.”

Towns scored 23 points to reach the record. He is averaging 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists per game.

He had a cheering section at the game. His parents Katie Hine and Carlton Towns made signs to celebrate.

“They were all there supporting me taking pictures and had posters,” Towns said.

Towns has college offers from four college, but said he plans to commit to Morehouse College soon.
