ALLENDALE, Mich. - Christian Humphrey-Rembert doesn’t like to answer his phone unless he knows who is calling.

But the East Kentwood senior-to-be has had to make an exception this summer.

“I have to answer every phone call now,” he said. “Because you never know who it could be. It could be a random call or it could be a coach. You never know.”

Humphrey-Rembert, a 6-foot-9, 195-pound forward, has been fielding a lot of calls from college coaches. He has offers from 13 schools so far and anticipates getting a few more before the summer is over.

“I expect to pick up a couple of more offers,” he said on Sunday at the BCAM top prospect team camp at Grand Valley State. “I want to be committed before school starts.”

Humphrey-Rembert has narrowed his list of top schools.

“I would say Howard, Princeton, Cal Berkeley and Indiana State,” he said.

Humphrey-Rembert, who had a 3.7 GPA this past school year, wants to go to a school that will challenge him in basketball and academically.

“Getting an education is a big deal to me,” he said. “Because one day, you won’t be able to play basketball anymore.”

Humphrey-Rembert played for East Kentwood his freshman year, before transferring to a prep school in Indiana called LaLumiere. He returned to East Kentwood just before the school year started, so he missed playing in team camps last summer with his new teammates.

“I’m hoping that we can play together more,” he said. “Last year, I came in late, so for me being here the entire summer and everyone learning their roles will be a big help.”

East Kentwood won the O-K Red Conference championship last year.
