East Kentwood senior commits to Division I Howard University
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Christian Humphrey-Rembert has committed to play basketball at Howard University.
The 6-foot-9, 200-pound senior at East Kentwood High School, had 15 Division I offers.
“I chose Howard because of Coach Kenny (Blakeney),” Humphrey-Rembert said. “Since I was a freshmen, he believed in me and thought I could become the player I am now. I had the opportunity to head down there (on a campus visit). I liked the people and the team.”
In the summer, he narrowed his college choices to Brown University, Central Arkansas, Howard and Harvard.
“I seriously considered Harvard, but they already had a lot of guys coming in,” Humphrey-Rembert said. “I believe they had seven.”
Howard is a Division I basketball program in Washington D.C. It plays in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The Bison made the NCAA Tournament last season for the first time since 1992.
Humphrey-Rembert went on an official visit in late October.
“It’s close to downtown,” he said. “It has a lot of cool monuments and its 10 minutes away from the White House. I went at night time to see the Whitehouse. I’d never seen it before. I also went on a campus tour and saw all the facilities.”
Humphrey-Rembert - the son of Channing Grady and Tremain Rembert - played at a prep school in Indiana called LaLumiere for two years. He then transferred home to Kentwood for junior year.
