WYOMING, Mich. - Belding junior Gavin Andres reached the 1,000 career point mark on Tuesday.

The shooting guard scored 26 points in a 48-39 loss to Wyoming Godwin Heights.

“It feels amazing,” Andres said of the record. “Its nice to know all the work I’ve been putting in is showing,”

His head coach knows how it feels, too. Zach Ingles had 2,130 career points at Greenville High School from 1999-2002.

“It’s a pretty neat accomplishment to get 1,000 points in your junior year,” Ingles said. “Really proud of him.”

Andres is just the second player in Belding history to reach the milestone. Ted Albert, who is the head coach at Indiana Tech, holds the school record with 1,200.

“Gavin is super important to our basketball team. More than just his ability to put the ball in the hoop, he’s a good teammate and a fearless competitor.”

Andres, who stands at 5-foot-10, 155 pounds, is averaging 23.1 points per game. He’s had six games of 30 or more points, including 41 against Hopkins.

Belding is having team success, too. The Black Knights (15-6) set the school record for wins in a season.
